Tour Operators

According to Mongolian laws, tourist organizations in Mongolia are categorized into 2 groups: travel agencies and tour operators. Tour operator plans tour products, promotes and organizes the products and covers travel agency activities. Travel agency retails tour operator tour products and specialized in ticketing, hotel booking, event booking etc. There is no obligatory special permission to be obtained by tour operators or travel agencies, but the Ministry issues special permits according to the company’s experience, number of tourists, number of professional staffs and stable works. Inbound tour operator special permission has ITO code while outbound tour operator’s is OTO, DTO indicates that the tour operator is for domestic tourists and INT indicated international tour organizing tour operator. Accomodations

According to Mongolian laws, tourist service organizations are hotel, tourist camp, spa, resort, restaurant, transportation, communication and performance. The hotels are graded between 1 to 5 stars in the international standards and tourist ger camps are graded by 1-2 Flowers. Hotels holding 3 stars or more are for tourist service. 3 – 5 star holders must obtain special permission in order to operate. “Accommodation grading committee” consisting of the Ministry, travel industry associations and tourism researchers categorize an accommodation according to Mongolian standards.
